Trace Legacy (IPA(key) /ˈtʃɹeɪs ˈlɛgəsi/) is a male human and the main protagonist of Twokinds. He was formerly the leader of the Templar Order, but was removed from power after the demigod Ephemural took his memories. After coming to his senses and found to be suffering with severe amnesia he has been traveling across Mekkan ever since.
Without the memories of his past life, and trauma to the black mana he attempted to use, Trace has become a kind and just person far from how he was prior. He fell in love with an escaped Keidran slave named Flora who is currently pregnant with his unborn child. The two are currently travelling to the hidden village of Lyn'knoll to settle down.
Appearance[]
Trace is a pretty average Human in terms of height and build. He has bright baby blue eyes and hair, the latter of which he keeps long and messy. He has white skin with a triangle tattoo on the left side of his face, also baby blue in colour. As of Page 551 in Chapter 12, an overuse of black magic corrupted his left hand and has turned it black and claw shaped. When using Certain types of magic the tips of his hair turns black or red.
During early chapters Trace wore a white jumper decorated with two light blue stripes and the Templar emblem of the same colour. He also wears a pair of light brown trousers and brown shoes, during Chapter 3 Trace removed his jumper at one point revealing he had been wearing a plain white vest beneath. As of Chapter 4 Trace exchanged his white jumper and vest for just a plain black t-shirt and he had continued to wear these clothes ever since, occasionally wearing a black hooded robe over the top during colder weather. Soon after his incident with black magic in Chapter 12 Trace began wearing a black glove on his left hand to hide the affliction. At chapter 15 page 671.
Biography[]
Background[]
Trace was born into a poor farming family in the village of Eversummer, but was taken in by the Templar at a fairly young age where he quickly developed his magical talents. Whether they where friends prior to Templar training or not is unknown, either way Trace was friends with Red, a fellow student at the Templar Academy. Unlike Trace however, Red showed very little magical potential, which led him to eventually leave the Academy. Trace also meet his future wife Saria while in training too, after a few failed attempts to gain her attention using less practical ways[1], he managed to work up the nerve to talk to her. They dated for a while and eventually were happily married despite differing personalities. One day, while visiting their house near the borders of the forest, Trace and Saria were attacked by a random Keidran attempting to rob them. Trace managed to deflect one arrow meant for him, but another grazed Saria. Unknown to Trace, the arrow was coated with poison and as the Templar left to chase the thief, she died.
Heartbroken, he tried to use black mana and forbidden magic to resurrect her. It backfired, almost destroying Trace's mind in the process. This incident caused a huge personality change for Trace, he became ruthless and tyrannical as a result of all the suffering he had gone through.
Bent on revenge, he overthrew the old Grand Templar, took her position, and replaced the Master Templars with his own inner group. Afterward, he started a genocidal campaign against the Keidran, transforming the previous peace-keeping force into a military institution to rival the Human's own army. He also started the construction of large mana towers to fulfill some unknown, yet apparently lethal purpose. It was during this time that Neutral intervened, (supposedly while he was chasing Flora) and the two fought. Sometime during the fight, Neutral wiped Trace's memories, leaving behind the Trace we see now.

Personality[]
Trace's personality when he was very young is unknown and his personality is only explained after he had joined the Templar. Lady Nora gives an account that during his younger years in the Templar Trace was rather shy, but also had a bit of a temper. After spending a few years with the group and rising to higher positions Trace became more confident, before this he had been discontent with his position, likely due to his natural ability far surpassing that of even more experienced mages.[2] Trace apparently had a slight prejudice against Keidran like many Humans seem to have, though he wasn't outright cruel. Roselyn's flashback recounts that while Trace and Red were still at the Templar Academy together Trace also seemed rather disinterested is much, preferring to study unlike his brash friend. When Trace married Saria au Gruhen he seemed to be very content and overjoyed, especially hearing that he was going to be a father soon. As mentioned growing up Trace only had typical Human prejudices towards Keidran however after the death of both his wife and unborn child at the hands of a Wolf he grew to completely despise them. After suffering that tragic loss Trace became heartless and bitter, forcibly taking control or the Templar Order and attempting a mass genocide of Keidran in an act of revenge. He appeared to have found brief solace after staring a new relationship with Maren Taverndatter, a tavern owner in the small village of Pinewood, though later on Maren recounted how she mostly felt confused at how genuine his feelings were for her and whether or not he was just using her to dull his pain.
Post-amnesia Trace is often clueless, naive, and somewhat gullible but at the same time he's also kind and sincere, especially with Flora. He also apparently has a natural urge to do good, as demonstrated both by his rushing to Flora's aid and willingness to help Keith when asked to accompany him to the Basidian Islands despite no real incentive to do so. On the whole he loves Flora very much and he was optimistic about the child he would be having with her to, although after remembering his deceased unborn child recently his feelings are made slightly unclear. Trace is prone to the odd memory of his past which causes him to sometimes show hate towards Keidran, however Flora is often there to calm him down. On a few occasions Trace has been consumed by his own Black Mana, in this state he is rendered mostly aware and not in control of his actions, he will proceed to lash out at everyone and everything around him.
Abilities and Powers[]
Swordsmanship[]
Although Trace is much more proficient with magic, he has been shown be able to hold off against Natani and Zen while being alone for a short time.
Magic[]
Trace, before the mind wipe, was a master mage and an expert on magic. In fact, he was considered one of the most powerful Humans alive, even being able to overthrow the then current Grand Templar through combat. The “current” Trace, however, is limited in terms of magical ability. Although Trace still retains the same magical potential prior to his amnesia the event caused him to lose the knowledge required to cast more powerful magic. When Trace enters his dark state or is put under intense emotional pressure he seems to subconsciously wield some of his old spells.
The spells Trace could use prior to his amnesia are, but not limited to:
- A Transformation spell.
- Dragonfire, a spell which calls forth mana dragons which explode on impact.
- A Summoning Spell that created a large dragon made of Black Mana.
- Black Mana tentacles which extend from the back and attacked the opponent. These are resistant to electric attacks.
The spells that the "current" Trace knows post-amnesia are, but not limited to:
- A Teleportation spell
- A Shield Spell, once used to deflect a fireball cast by Roan at Maeve.
- A Healing Spell
- A weak Levitation Spell

Trivia[]
- On Page 746, Natani nicknamed Trace "Pet Human" when talking to Flora, though she has never referred to him as this since.
- Trace has the most appearances in the main comics out of every character; besides Flora he is the only character to make an appearance in every chapter including the short Prologue.
- Trace's triangular marking on his cheek is never explained. He even shows confusion of its existence when Keith asks him about it on Page 779. It may be some kind of magical marking or tattoo as the only other person in the series to have it is Sealeen, another mage albeit a Mercenary.
- Trace is the only member of the characters that form Group A not to have confirmed deceased parents, though his parents have never actually been mentioned in the comics before.
