Pinewood

Trace and Flora happening upon Pinewood

Pinewood is a small village that resides fairly deep within the Human Territory in Mekkan. The town is located near a dense wood that separates it from the sea. The town is described as only having a few dozen residents, which were mostly human.

As of Chapter 12 Pinewood was invaded by an attack by the Border Forest Tribe, who launched from the cover of the woodland near the south of the village as part of the current war between the Forest Wolves and the Human Kingdom. Many residents were likely killed and none are known to have escaped with the exception of Group B's members. The current state of the village is unknown, either it was left to burn down by the Wolves who attacked or perhaps was converted into a outpost by them to assist in their ongoing war.

Appearance in the Comics[]

As talked about in the "Maren and Karen Character Reference" side sketch, before the events of the main comic the Tavendatter family and their inn had seemingly been their for many years. The inn was owned by Mr. Tavendatter at one point and he lived and worked their with his two daughters Maren and Karen, along with their Keidran slave Tanlen. Around a few years after Karen was born, the youngest of the two daughters, Tanlen murdered Mr. Tavendatter and left the two girls alone to run their family business. Running the inn was hard and Maren had to grow up quickly to survive and provide for her sister which left her with a great distaste for Keidran because of Tanlen's actions beforehand.

About a decade after the death of their father Trace Legacy, the current Grand Templar and recent widower, came through the village while hunting Keidran. Maren and Trace began talking during his visit and the two became a couple, though the extent of their relationship reached is not elaborated upon. At some point during their breif time dating Maren' sister Karen annoyed Trace so much that he place a curse on Karne causing her to grown and extra pair of Keidran ears as a punishment, though the idea backfired as Karen loved her new set of ears. Later Trace left town for a short while to continue his hunt for Keidran but mid-hunt was cursed by Ephemural to lose his memories, leaving Maren in the dark as to his whereabouts for a whole month.

Pinwood first appears in within the main comic at the ending of Chapter 1 as a collection of small wooden building over the horizon, but it is also mentioned a few times by Trace beforehand in said chapter though too. Flora expressesed major resistance to the idea of heading into the village herself as it was populated by mostly Humans who would kill her on sight so Trace headed in alone.

At the start of the next chapter Trace enters the village inn and end up running into some people he knew, including his apparent best friend and girlfriend, though he doesn't recognise any if them due to his curet amnesia. After exchanging brief words with his "friends" he meets a strange creature referring to itself as a Basitin called Keith Keiser who says he had been looking for Trace for many years and needed him to accompany him to the Basidian Islands immediately. With little knowlage of what was going on and with no current objective Trace agreed, saying he would join him after gathering a few supplies from around town. Trace headed to the local Jewelry Store to get a present for Flora on his way out and ending up being gifted a SubtleSeed Crystal for free by the "jewler". After leaving the store and visiting a few more buildings around town off-panel Trace presumably met up with Keith again. The duo are then seen leaving Pinewood in the distance as the rendezvous with Flora again and leave at last.

Much later on in the main comic during Chapter 12, Trace's now ex-girlfriend Maren is seen working inside her tavern once more talking to her younger sister, while mutual friend of her and Trace, Red and newfound companion Raine are talking upstairs. Suddenly a man burst in screaming from the doorway that Wolves are attacking, only to then be stuck down where he stood by a previous Wolf aquaintent of Maren and company, Sythe, who is very surprised to see them. After a brief moment Sythe desides to help the four of them escape due to the history between them, though when outside the tavern a group of Sythe's fellow Wolves was overhear him saying that he was going to let the group of Humans escape. Sythe attempted to correct himself but it was too late, just before the Wolves could attack the group Raine teleported them away with her magic, though after gauging their surroundings the group realises they were only about 100 feet outside of town and that the Wolves were again in pursuit. The group began to flee again leaving a destroyed Pinewood to the hands of the Wolves. The some of the other Wolves are later seen in the village street discussing Sythe's apparent betrayal and decide to send a crimal guild to track him down and bring him back alive for his "betrayal".

Although Pinewood itself could not been seen smoke rising from the destroyed village could be seen rising from the nearby tree line at the start of Chapter 13.

Notable Interior Locations[]

Taverndatter Inn[]

The Taverndatter Inn has seemingly been in the village for many decades as it was owned by Karen and Maren's father before hand. The inn is two floors high, the both floor adorned with multiple tables and a bar setup for drinks while the upstairs has at least two rooms in which the Taverndatter sisters and Red sleep, though their are likely other rooms for customers too.

Jewelry Store[]

The Pinewood Jewelry Store is owned, or at least usually ran this unnamed man. The store is visibly one floor high with said floor being filled with multiple display cabinets and shelves filled with valuable goods.
