Lieutenant Madelyn Adelaide (IPA(key) /mæd'ə'lɪn æd'leɪd/), nicknamed Maddie Addie and Madness on a few occasions, (IPA(key) /mæd'i æd'i/), is a female Basitin Lieutenant and spy for the Eastern Basitin Army. She is the only known child of Jade Adelaide, the current Basitin King, but doesn't carry the title of Princess due to "King" being a rank and not a title. It is assumed that Madelyn didn't know much about her father growing up as he was never present and his current whereabouts are unknown.
Madelyn kept tabs on Keith Keiser and his companions upon their return to the Basidian Islands and presented essential information during Keith's trial in Chapter 12. When Keith and the rest of the group departed back to the Mekkan mainland Madelyn snuck onto their ship without informing any of her superiors, not even her own mother. Madelyn had followed Keith's group to join him in his duties as the first ever Basitin ambassador and mentions a few times that she wants to become an ambassador herself one day. She was the cause of fire on board Eric's ship at sea but remained hidden until someone else was blamed. After the fire she eventually revealed herself to everyone and is now currently traveling alongside Keith and Lynn on behalf of the Eastern Basitin Kingdom, even if no one actually ordered her too.

Maddie is definitely on the short side, even for a Basitin. She still has all brown fur, like other Basitin, and has yellow eyes as well. She is small and not very intimidating, a stark contrast to her mother Jade Adelaide who is unnaturally large in height. Along with her short stature, she has a very lean build and young looking face, all of which leaving many to assume her to be younger than she actually is.

Chapter 10[]
Madelyn's first appearance is shown seen spying on a battle between Keith and another Basitin with Natani. She is amazed by Keith's fighting ability.
Chapter 11[]
Following her mysterious streak of reappearing and disappearing, she reveals herself to Natani and Flora when they attempted to sneak into the Basitin Castle past curfew to help rescue Trace. Madelyn agrees not to arrest them if she delivers a strange heart stamped letter to Keith. After agreeing to her terms Madelyn quickly disappears once again for the rest of the chapter.

Madelyn is seen greeting Keith on the docks of the Eastern Basitin Kingdom holding an urn of Laura's ashes, acting more like her actual age than in her typical young impression. She explains that they tried to follow the standard Keidran rituals as best they could and tries to console Keith by saying that she is sorry for his loss. Keith responds rather bluntly by telling her he will do everything he can to bring her back, but either way Madelyn tells him she understands.

When Group A departs from the Basitin Islands she sneaks on board the Na'Rella to get close to Keith. She hides in a barrel, but as she gets out of it she accidentally knocks over a lantern, starting a fire on the ship. As Eric interrogates Mike and Evals, believing them to be responsible for the fire, she comes forward and admits to starting the fire. Eric decides to detain her in the brig.
Chapter 15[]
Maddie later escapes the brig and tried to steal the breakfast Trace was making for Flora, but ends up knocking it over and gets caught. She then pleads with Flora not to tell Eric and claims that he wouldn't let her out of the brig unless he could paint her nude, but this was a lie so she wouldn't be put back in her cell. Trace decides to feed her a new plate of breakfast. As Trace and Flora begin to discuss the evil black smoke hallucination and what Flora is hiding, Maddie blurts out that Flora is pregnant, which Flora confirms to be true.

Madelyn is first seen again finishing the meal that Trace made for her, Flora remarks how she's kind of cute, Trace reluctantly agrees but is more aware she's just manipulating them for free food.
After presumably finishing her meal she is later seen stacking furniture in the kitchen when Natani enters. After teasing him about his feelings for Keith, Natani asks her if she knows where everyone is. Madelyn says no but does suggest a way to get their attention, proceeding to knock over all of the stacked furniture and then run off. When Trace and Flora turn up to investigate they believe that Natani was responsible for the mess.

As the ship docks in Edinmire, Maddie accompanies Keith and Lynn to help find an apothecary to heal Natani, only to find that the villagers are unwilling to help wolves. After being rejected by every apothecary in town, they are approached by one apothecary who wants to help them. Maddie realizes that they are being watched by three other people and she and Lynn figure out that this is a trap. They are then ambushed by Sarah, Sealeen, and Landen. Maddie secretly roots through Sealeen and Landen's belongings and figures out that they are not a Templar and a guard as they claim. She then fights with Landen, but then convinces her to abandon the fight by paying her not to hunt wolves. After the attack by the wolves, she along with the rest of Team A is taken to the Legacy Estate.

Maddie is eating breakfast and reading a newspaper when Karen tries to touch her ears. Maddie then swats her hand with the newspaper and chastises her for trying to touch them. Karen asks why she doesn't want her touching them and insinuates the gesture is sexual, which causes Maddie to get flustered and then explain that it's a calming gesture between two people who are close. Soon after, she leaves the room while Karen is still thinking about Basitin ears.
Later, she is seen attempting to map out the Estate only to get frustrated because the layout seems to keep changing. Then, Karen attempts to sneak up on her again and Maddie instantly catches her and asks her to go away and calls her a kid. Karen then thinks Maddie is younger than she is and calls her "shrimpy" which offends Maddie and she starts chasing Karen around. They end up in the Forbidden Corridor, where Stoneward is posing as a statue. As they explore the area and attempt to open the door on the other end, Stoneward suddenly comes to life and attacks them. Maddie attempts to run for the exit, only to find that the exit is sealed off. Meanwhile, Maddie is trying to dodge Stoneward's attacks, but Stoneward ends up kicking her chest and bruising her ribs, seriously injuring her. Just when Stoneward was about to finish them off, Rose teleports Maddie and Karen to the dungeons. Maddie picks the lock to get them out of the dungeon when they meet with Reni who had just returned to the Estate. When they explain to Reni that they were attacked, she panics thinking wolves attacked the Estate to free Brutus, only to realize he is still there. Maddie then takes the opportunity to try and interrogate him, but she was too distracted because he was naked to pay attention to what he was saying. They then walk out of the dungeon and recount to Reni what happened in the Forbidden Corridor. Maddie attempted to tell them what was inside but she could not remember, and Reni notes to herself that the memory was removed by black magic. They then meet up with Sythe and Maren who are headed to the beach party in the Oasis Room, but Maddie looks inside and sees that several of the Keidran naked and appears to run off. However, at some point she snuck into the Oasis Room and observed everything that transpired in secret, including Maren leaving the Oasis Room.

When Karen is lured off the edge of the balcony by an illusion of Maren and nearly falls to her death, Maddie knew it was a fake and jumped to pull Karen to safety, blowing her cover. When Karen asks what she is doing in the Oasis Room she explained she snuck in earlier and noticed Maren leaving before the door disappeared.
Personality[]
Madelyn has a very up-beat and positive attitude, but is not as mature as her rank suggests, she is more like a teenage girl than a lieutenant in many ways, but in Chapter 12, Page 556, she can be seen defending Keith in a mature and focused manner. She tends to be very naive as well as curious, and doesn't understand the best way to handle non-combat situations very well. Also, despite her great ability for stealth, she appears to be very clumsy.
Additionally, Madelyn is extremely clever. Taking advantage of Flora's Motherly protectiveness when she escaped from the brig on the Na'Rella. She told Flora that Eric told her the only way he would let her out was if she undressed and then demonstrated groping motions with her hands. Later, when Flora affirms that she'll protect her from Eric, mainly because she is fooled by Maddie's story about Eric.
She also apparently doesn't like being referred to as 'shrimpy' due to the stereotype that Basitin must be strong and tough. She was shown to be greatly angered when Karen called her this.

Due to her small and unassuming appearance, Maddie is a perfect choice for reconnaissance and trickery. She often pretends to be younger than she actually is, usually 13, and gets away with a lot of dangerous and meddlesome antics because of it.

Trivia[]
- Madelyn's father is never seen in the main comics however, in a side sketch titled "Adelaide's Impromptu First Date" her father's identity is hinted at, showing him only from a rear angle. After climbing up the Basitin castle's tower to Adelaide's room she is revealed to have already been waiting on the balcony for him, surprised he was able to make it all the way up despite his "scrawny" appearance. Madelyn's small size compared to most other Basitin is therefore implied to come from her father's side.
- Madelyn often lies about her age, usually telling others she is only 13, so that they underestimate her. Although voices are not included due to the nature of a web comic Madelyn seems to talk in a more innocent tone of voice when pretending to be younger, both in her words and her facial expressions.
- Despite being the daughter of the Eastern Basitin King Madelyn is not considered a Princess. This is due to the fact the title of King is, in fact, a rank earned through combat and not succession. Eastern Basitin do not have an official monarchy and instead a society wide chain of command.
- Although Madelyn is pretty much fully grown she is still 2'4" shorter than her mother, though this is likely due to her taking after her "scrawny" father and her mother being incredibly tall even for male Basitin.
- Madelyn is one of three child characters featured in the present day of the main comics, the other two being Karen Taverndatter and Maeve. Although many of the Keidran characters featured are only aged between typically 10-15 years old 10 is actually considered the time when a Keidran reaches adulthood, Basitin on the other hand age at pretty much the same rate as Humans do so being 17 would still make Madelyn a child.
- While Maddie is able to speak Human, Keidran and Basitin, she may be unable to read Human as evidenced on page 1027 where she is seen reading an upside-down newspaper.
